” What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter.” – Anonymous

Winter has never been my favorite season except that I love to snuggle myself up in a cozy blanket when it’s cold and also flaunt a variety of woolen wear and jackets. This is what I felt as a child when I was growing up in the Northern part of India, where one at least feels cold when it’s Winter, unlike Mumbai where it’s either raining or it’s hot and humid a typical coastal temperature. Staying in Mumbai for a little less than a decade I had almost forgotten, what it meant to feel cold, let alone seeing anything even closer to snow :). Konstanz made the Winters from the fairy tales come alive for me. I felt like I am in a dreamland where the only color is white when it snowed, else an astounding combination of Green, Yellow, Red, and Orange when the leaves left the trees and embraced the soil below. Truly incredible!

Winters at Konstanz see temperatures ranging between -10 to 7 degrees from Nov – March every year. Though all tourist guides would recommend visiting Constance during Summers, yet I would suggest otherwise. So, I have put together a photo essay for you to know and see it for yourself what you may miss if you not here during Winters. These photos are from the place where I stay ( Apartment Hotel, Stenstrasse) and within a radius of few kilometers.

The photo essay is in the reverse order from deep winters to the light when it had just begun.

December 2017- When it snowed deep

Winters in Constance
At Lake Constance. Nature has its own symmetry

Lake Constance. The silence all around was so wonderful. I could almost hear the sound of the birds swimming in the lake

Winters in Constance
This tree with its branches kissed with snow was gorgeous from almost any angle that I could take a shot from

This is what I woke up to on a few of the mornings when it snowed deep. Isn’t it picture-perfect?

Winters in Constance
It kept snowing all the time for two days and this was the sight right outside my window

November 2017 – The usual life around when it had just begun to snow

I love this always empty bench on the front side of the Apartment Hotel. Feels like its always empty to just welcome anyone

Winters in Constance
Tall trees adorning the Lake Constance like a broken necklace from one side

Behind apartment Hotel. Look at the perfect blue sky. Who can resist such beauties?

Winters in Constance
Can you see the snow very meticulously adjusting itself on these narrow branches before they eventually melt and drip down

Winters in Constance
See a small patch of the sunlight making the snow in that part shine brighter in flamboyance

Near the Constance Harbor just after the Christmas Market. Another line of gorgeous whites against the beautiful colorless water at the backdrop

November 2017 – Few days were bright and sunny

Winters in Constance
Love the way these dark green leaves have hugged the tree from the top to the bottom. Feels like an unbreakable bond

Winters in Constance
I have never watched any kind of birds so closely ever. And I am in love with each one of them

Do trees rust? What color is this really? Took this shot when I was strolling at the lakeside along with my Lil one

Winters in Constance
Looks like a gorgeous tree fountain standing tall in grace with all its branches and leaves bask in the light of the evening sun

October 2017 – Beginning of Autumn it was

Winters in Constance
The magnificent sun, hiding behind, letting the tree shine away in its glam and glitter

Winters in Constance
When I see this tree now, I can’t imagine it looked like this just 3 months back. Change is constant and the best way to enjoy is it to embrace it from all your heart

Winters in Constance
I haven’t seen anything so beautiful before. This is my favorite in this gallery.

Winters in Constance
Another perfect symmetry right outside Apartment Hotel

Winters in Constance
Did it know, that it will have to let go the love of its life in few days and wait until its time again

Winters in Constance
I think I have clicked almost all the trees that caught my attention in some way, irrespective of where I saw them.

Winters in Constance
You are nothing but a beautiful poetry

Winters in Constance
It is not a painting, but a real tree

Winters in Constance
Across the road, while waiting for my bus to the station. Couldn’t let it go, but capture it to make it mine.

Winters in Constance
It’s like ” Mera Wala Yellow” (it’s my type of yellow) from an Indian ad.

Winters in Constance
What a perfect place there could be for our stroller. Never felt like removing it from the frame.

Winters in Constance
Can I kiss you and hug you because I know you won’t be there here for long. And I will miss you.

This is an eternal love story and you will see a lot of such photo stories from my end in the months to come. I can’t resist but boast about being so fortunate to be staying here.
